Inaugural Franchise Legal Symposium
A FANZ first saw the introduction of a Legal Symposium aimed for anyone in the franchising community with an interest in legal requirements and practices for franchising in New Zealand with the bonus for legal attendees to earn CPD points.
With an impressive list of International and National legal speakers, the inaugural Franchise Legal Symposium covered unfair contracts, international expansion, emerging legal issues arising from new technologies, franchisor succession and sale, and resolving franchise disputes through mediation and the disputes tribunal.
2025 National Franchise Conference
Many voices provided fuel for thought with keynotes, panels, concurrent sessions and round tables across many franchising topics. It also covered some big picture topics, with Melissa Clark-Reynolds, ONZM, ChMindstD on AI at work and leading when nothing is certain, and Pic Picot on general resilience and becoming accidentally successful as a Peanut Butter Maker.
Our franchise keynote voices included an international aspect from Jim Goniea, Purpose Brands (which includes Anytime Fitness), looking at fuelling system growth. Greg Nathan, Franchise Relationship Institute, on tips and techniques to harness the power within your franchise network and Bill Edwards, Edwards Global Services, on trends occurring in franchising globally. Nationally, Tim Cartwright, Fresh Choice, provided his insights into leading franchisees through transformation and Karla Brennan, McDonald’s Restaurants, shared how to unlock the triple advantage of engaged teams, aligned messaging and collaborative franchise relationships for a standout customer experience.
Panels covering big picture trends, legal aspects, digital transformation and field management engaged delegates with a variety of perspectives, and concurrent sessions and round table discussions allowed delegates to tailor their experience to what mattered most to them and their business.
The exhibitor showcase added further value to #FANZNFC25.
Evening Functions
No conference is complete without the opportunity to network in a relaxing setting outside of the conference room and #FANZNFC25 saw two great events:
Sunday welcome at SkyCity Hamilton, sponsored by Citation HR
Our welcome function was held on Sunday Evening at SkyCity Hamilton, located in the heart of Hamilton city. This evening provided an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow delegates over dinner and drinks and was the perfect way to begin the conference with conversation and connections.
Te hui nui, sponsored by Paramount Services
The venue for our Monday night evening function was the central meeting space within The University of Waikato, The Pa, Te Ahurutanga. Embracing the culture within The Pa, we were wrapped in warmth, kōrero, and local kai.
