Welcome to the Franchise Association of New Zealand

The Franchise Association of New Zealand Inc. is the peak body representing the franchising community at government and other industry forums. Members of the Association are committed to observe the best practice in franchising through adherance to a Code of Ethics, a Code of Practice and the Rules of the Association.

The benefits of membership

Once accepted into the Association, franchises and service providers benefit from the credibility that membership provides. They are also able to use the resources of the Association to keep up to date on issues and enhance their franchising knowlege through conferences, seminars or other networking opportunities. Members and franchisees of Members are also able to access a range of business related savings and discounts including fuel, travel, recruitment, telecommunications, education, security and loss prevention.

Franchising in New Zealand

Franchising is a respectable and highly successful business format, both internationally and here in New Zealand. The turnover of franchised businesses in New Zealand is well over $15 billion a year and around 100,000 people are employed in franchises.

Buying from a member franchise

Buying a business always involves some risks, but if you buy a quality franchise business from a member of the Association, those risks are likely to be substantially reduced. Why is this? It's because in a respectable franchise system you are given the business tools to help you succeed and you have the help and support of your franchisor and fellow franchisees in the system.

Franchising New Zealand Survey 2010

The Franchising New Zealand 2010 research project is now on line and all participants have the chance to go into a draw to win a 64GB IPod Touch or a similar article to the value of $700!

Led by Massey University in partnership with Griffith University of Queensland, the survey will provide a snapshot of the current state of franchising in NZ and, like previous studies, will be used by franchise systems and franchise professionals as well as government agencies to help inform and make decisions.

This year, Griffith University is running their biennial Franchising Australia survey at the same time and so there will be many opportunities for trans-Tasman analysis of the two sectors.

Your Opportunity to Participate

All franchisor organisations operating throughout the country are being invited to complete the questionnaire so the researchers can be fully informed about the sector in New Zealand and examine its significance in the economy.

If you are in this group, but have not received your personalised invitation to complete the survey, please contact Dr Susan Flint-Hartle at Massey University by email s.l.flint-hartle@massey.ac.nz or contact Graham Billings at FANZ - graham@franchise.org.nz for a link to the survey.

As principal sponsors of Franchising New Zealand 2010 we encourage you to respond, as the strength of the survey will be dependent on the franchisors who participate. All information will be totally confidential to the research team at the University and you can pause and come back to the survey at any time.
