Karla Brennan has been working for McDonald's in the last 23 years and counting. What started as a part time crew person role while studying Psychology at Auckland University turned into a career she could not have imagined!
She has been fortunate to have a wide range of roles within McDonald's from Restaurant Manager, Training Consultant, Senior Field Service Consultant, McOpCo Operations Manager, Business Partner, National Learning and Development Manager to her new challenge in 2016 of Restaurant Solutions Manager. Magic McDonald's moments for her have been as recipient of the McDonald's President's award (Top 1% of corporate employees globally) and the Spirit of New Zealand award, given to those who epitomise the spirit, culture and values of McDonald's.

Gaylene Anderson has seen phenomenal change during her extensive experience in the advertising industry.  Working across a broad range of clients and categories, in senior client service roles at Colenso and as CEO of Walkers Advertising.  Over that time she has seen a huge shift in attitude, reducing budgets and most importantly the emergence of digital.  In 2003 Gaylene, set up Work Communications, an Auckland based agency with 31 experienced individuals on board.  Here she has put into practice the truly integrated approach she believes is the winning model for agencies going forward.

One of the most exciting times to be building your brand focuses on the integrated communications model with digital at its heart.  Gaylene will demonstrate how this model allows us to be truly targeted, to connect and persuade at an emotional level and generate the action we are looking for to grow our brands in this exciting digital age.

Greg Murphy
Kiwi Legend Motor Racing Driver

A seasoned driver in Australian V8 Supercars, Greg Murphy's mark on the sport is indisputable. With over 400 V8 Supercar race starts, multiple Bathurst 1000 wins and appointments with some the highest profile race teams in Australasia, Greg is rightfully considered one of the greats by fellow competitors and fans alike. Greg's flagrant disregard for detractors and adversity has resulted in some of his most memorable performances despite the odds. An attitude applied to both his life and business decision making.

Michael Eyre
Managing Director, Blazes Renewables

Michael Eyre is the founder and Managing Director of the Blazes group of companies. His first venture as a Franchisor was in 1994 when he franchised an existing retail business selling fires and fireplaces.  From 6 outlets in 1994 franchising facilitated growth to over 60 outlets in just 6 years. In 2005 an opportunity presented itself to develop a business selling and installing domestic central heating.  Michael seized this business idea and developed a home based franchise opportunity which attracted 15 new franchisees in the first year of operation.

Michael's latest franchise launch is Blazes Renewables offering a wide range of renewable and energy saving technologies but concentrating on converting traditional lighting to LED and the installation of Solar Photovoltaic systems to the business community.  Franchisees offering this service are home based and work flexible hours to match those of their potential clients.

Blazes became members of the BFA in 1994 as Associate member and were upgraded to Full Member in 1996 where through regular reaccreditation they have been ever since. Michael took up an active role in the BFA in 2003 becoming the North of England Regional Chairman overseeing the activities of the members' forum quarterly meetings.  In 2007 Michael was elected to the board of the BFA and in 2010 was elected to the position of Chairman of the Board. He held this position for 3 years making him the longest serving Chairman in the Association's history.

Michael is currently the BFA's Board Member for International Affairs attending the World Franchise Council meetings and the European Franchise Federation meetings where he holds the position of Chairman.


Ben Leduc
General Manager of Retail Operations, Mitre 10

Ben Leduc has been working alongside independent business owner/operators for almost 15 years.

A Canadian-born retailer, his leadership experience spans over three decades, having worked in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. He has held executive accountabilities in Business Development, Operations, Merchandising and Marketing.

Ben joined the Mitre 10 NZ business in 2002 to lead the development of the MEGA store format for the cooperative. This strategy has proven to be pivotal to Mitre 10's ongoing relevance with kiwi consumers.

He will share the Mitre 10 story and reveal how its "core values" and "key pillars" are essential in aligning Management, Members and Employees to the brand. He will finally convey his views on the importance of recruiting to brand-fit.  He sums it up this way:

"A brand is not simply about what it offers and what you see, but it is primarily defined by the men and women that bring it to life every day! People that have 'skin in the game' usually have a greater commitment to the collective and the brand. However, don't blink! Choose your ambassadors carefullyyour brand is in their hands!"
